Dutch Oven Cookin' at the Maize
So, since the last weekend in September, we as a family, have been cooking dutch oven at the Idaho's Original Corn Maize. It has been a lot of fun, but maybe not tons of fun. The first few weekends were rain, rain, rain, and snow! Needless to say we didn't do real well. But this past week made up for a lot of that. They had 4,700+ people at The Maize on Saturday. It was crazy! Sorry no picture to post on this one, but I will try to take a picture of our little shack out in the field for a later post. The kids have had a lot of fun out there. This year the Maize bought ponies for pony rides. I think my kids take a little ownership of them out there, it's fun to watch them. Jared is "employed" as a corn cop, he does a really good job. He takes pride in Jim's (the owner) work and maybe a little ownership himself. The older corn cops tell us what a great job he is doing. He has taken the responsibility seriously. The owners are our good friends, home teacher, and counselor in primary. They have been great at letting our kids run free at the Maize and my kids think they are in heaven! They don't like staying home, they would rather be out there for hours on end. Our menu has typically been a dutch oven dinner consisting of :BBQ chicken, dutch oven potatoes, and a scone. We also have navajo tacos, nachos, scone with cinn/sugar, cobblers with ice cream, and soda. We have two more weekends to go. We are going to be at the Maize for Halloween (yeah no trick or treating!). I'm not fond of Halloween so it makes a great place for us to be. It will be nice when we are done but we enjoy it while it's here! Check out their website: www.idahomaize.com

We're going to the Maize on Halloween, too! Maybe we could meet up there? We don't do the trick-or-treating thing, either!
It sounds like a lot of work but I bet it is a lot of fun. It sounds like the kids really like it as well. Glad to hear things are going well for you guys.
